Oil & Gas Information: Part I

With advent of the Internet, long gone are the days when we needed to go to libraries, buy books, magazines – just to find reliable reference information. In my series of posts, I will make brief overview of some Internet resources that Oil & Gas professional can use for both business, reference and fun. This is not a comprehensive coverage, rather some information that I think might be useful and enjoyable. Sometimes, when working on documents, you need to find a quick reference, and here you are…..
ENTERTAINMENT
You can find everything in the Internet: starting to Oil & Gas Quiz games, like this page
to more sophisticated arcade games like Oil God – I wonder how many oil professionals enjoy it?
GENERAL BASIC INFORMATION
PetroChase, an Arizona-based company, provides this beautiful page:

  • This Introduction to Refining by Chris Doss, Technical Professional, Downstream, Wood Group Mustang very nicely explains the subject

FINANCIAL ISSUES

  •  A really good educational and practical narration about Oil and Gas business is presented Brian DeChesare - the Founder of Mergers & Inquisitions on this page: Oil & Gas Modeling 101. This is the first time I come across such concise and useful  guidance and introduction.

Just an example:
“So how is oil & gas modeling different?
1.      You Can’t Control Prices or Revenue
2.      They are Balance Sheet-Centric
3.      Accounting is Different
4.      Depleting Assets Galore
5.      Cyclicality “

“An oil company is interested in leasing your minerals because they have reason to believe that they can find oil or gas there. Consider this article as your Oil and Gas 101 course, primarily written for the mineral rights owner. Learning oil and gas basics will help you maximize the value of your mineral rights.”
